Revamp for dangerous pedestrian crossing

Member for Robertson Gordon Reid with Michael Cronshaw near the crossing

Traffic lights at the intersection of Mann St and Central Coast Hwy in Gosford will be made more pedestrian-friendly following a resident’s near miss and speedy action from Federal Member for Robertson Dr Gordon Reid.

Local resident Michael Cronshaw said he narrowly escaped being hit by a car while negotiating the busy intersection on foot recently.

He emailed Reid to request urgent action to improve pedestrian safety at the crossing.

Reid jumped into action, writing to NSW Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Jenny Aitchison to draw her attention to a potential safety issue.

The Minister also responded quickly, ordering an upgrade of the intersection to include vegetation pruning and warning signage.

Cronshaw said he was “very impressed” with the response his initial letter to Reid had prompted.

“I am also pleasantly surprised with the State Minister for responding so quickly,” he said.

“The response I have received has restored my faith in government and politics.

“This advance warning sign will hopefully improve pedestrian safety and save lives.”

Reid said it was a relief that Cronshaw and his wife were not harmed while crossing the Central Coast Hwy at the lights.

“It is evident that action needs to be taken to improve pedestrian safety as well as improve the line of sight for passing motorists,” he said.

“I am pleased that the Minister has similarly acknowledged the risk to pedestrians, and motorists, and instructed Transport for NSW to improve conditions at this crossing.

“The Minister has outlined that Transport for NSW will clear vegetation to improve the line of sight and will install an advance warning sign to alert motorists to the traffic signals ahead.

“I thank Mr Cronshaw for having raised this matter with the relevant authorities and I thank the Minister for acting swiftly.”
