Wyong Creek Literary Institute has received $11,599 from the Community Building Partnership to install ceiling fans and refurbish the back deck.
Minister for Central Coast and Member for Wyong David Harris recently presented the cheque to Institute President Paul Salmon.
Built in 1914 on land in Yarramalong Valley donated by Frederick Salmon, a local farmer, the heritage-listed hall was built with materials donated by community members, who also provided free labour.
More than a century later, Frederick Salmon’s grandson Paul is president of the Institute, maintaining a very real connection with the original founding member.
In 2021 the group received $33,700 to repair and modify the roof structure and build an access ramp to the deck, a new access door and disabled toilets.
Today, the hall is a popular location for private functions such as weddings and special occasions.
