With high numbers of people set to enjoy the region’s beaches, waterways and outdoors spaces over summer, Central Coast Council is reminding locals and visitors of some key safety measures to ensure they, and the wider community, remain safe.
Central Coast Council Director Community and Recreation Services Melanie Smith said Council’s Coast Summer Safety program is all about helping the community understand some key risks and providing simple steps to help keep everyone safe when out and about.
“(The program) will primarily be delivered via a targeted digital campaign in December, January and February and highlights messaging that’s relevant to this year’s season,” Smith said.
“These include being informed on the current situation and advice from NSW Health regarding COVID, being prepared for emergency and severe weather events, staying safe in around water, and other important safety reminders for when ‘out and about’, travelling and celebrating.
“Time in and around water is a big part of summer on the Coast, but wherever there is water there is danger.
“This campaign emphasises what we can do to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe.
“We know that severe weather and other emergency events will continue to be a part of our lives on the Central Coast, and we need to remain vigilant and be ready for bushfires, floods, or storms.
“Whether you’re new to the Coast or have lived here for decades, now is the time to understand your risks and prepare a current plan to help protect yourself, your family and your property.
“Our roads will also be very busy and many of us will be travelling for holidays and to visit family and friends – this campaign reminds us what we can do to be safer on and around the roads.”
Council Administrator Rik Hart said safety needs to be front of mind this summer.
“We all want to see a busy and enjoyable summer season on the Central Coast,” he said.
“Equally we all want to ensure that it is a safe period.
“I encourage everyone to take the time to slow down, enjoy what you are doing and be patient and kind to others in what can be a hectic period.
“Slow down on the roads, be safe around the water and be prepared for emergency events so we all have great memories for the right reasons.”
