Seven Central Coast players have been named in the NSW men’s and women’s country cricket teams to compete in the Toyota Australian Country Championships in Canberra in January.

This will be an unprecedented representation by the Coast in the state teams, following outstanding performances at the recent Country Championships by both the men’s and women’s representative teams.

The men’s side, which lost the final to Newcastle, will be represented by Shaun Eaton (Brisbane Water), Broc Hardy (The Entrance) and Callum Rainger (Wyong), while the women representing the Coast will be Grace Dignam (Terrigal Matcham), Amy Cunningham (Lisarow Ourimbah), Rochelle Davis (Wyong) and Sophie Shelley (Brisbane Water).

Central Coast Representative Chairman, Trevor Allison was ecstatic with the result.

“To have seven players selected across the two squads is a great result and fantastic recognition not just for those players but for our opens representative teams as well,” he said.

“It is particularly pleasing from the women’s side as our representation in the past in this side has been minimal so to have almost a third of the (13 person) squad come from the Central Coast is excellent.”

The National Championships will see NSW Country play matches against Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, Queensland, ACT and East Asia Pacific in 50 over matches for the men and T20 matches for the women.

The men’s carnival will run from the January 13-20, with the women starting a day later.
