Freemasons to the rescue

Freemasons on the Central Coast (FoCC) have come to the rescue following a plea from The Entrance Neighbourhood Centre.

Staffed completely by volunteers, with no financial assistance from the government, the centre provides a wide range of services to the community including distribution of food vouchers, electricity assistance (EAPA vouchers), frozen meals, medical prescriptions and, importantly, a well-informed and friendly ear.

“We like to think of it as a hand-up rather than a hand-out,” Centre Managers Rosslyn Smith said.

With some 5,000 families on the books requiring assistance, it has always been quite hectic at the centre, with a significant amount of the administration done on an old laptop.

Smith said the system worked well with the community getting the assistance it needed until the laptop and printer finally gave up the ghost.

Smith contacted Freemasons on the Central Coast (FotCC), requesting urgent assistance and they came to the rescue with $1,620 to buy a new computer and printer.

FotCC also arranged for the laptop to be set-up and loaded with all the latest required software.

“The new laptop and printer are a godsend; the printer is much faster and a lot more user-friendly than the previous one,” smith said.

“All of the volunteers are able to access the information with ease.”
