The long awaited Coastal Twist Festival was launched to much fanfare on Tuesday night, 27 September, at an all inclusive art exhibition at Umina’s The Public Gallery.
The eight day program offers a broad celebration of art, performance and community events including a big Fair Day at Umina on Monday, October 1st.
Festival Director, Glitta Supernova, is thrilled and relieved after 3 cancellations during the pandemic related lockdowns.
“It’s festival time … I feel like we’ve been in a holding pattern for eternity,” said Glitta
“But tonight the Twist Festival is launched … fourth time lucky, the sky has parted and maybe the goddesses of love are on our side.
The program includes 14 separate events across the 8 days including:
Art exhibitions – Drag Bingo – Emerging artist shows – Yoga – Design workshops – Picnic Day – Comedy -Dance – Cabaret – Outdoor festival – Gardening – Fitness.
Organisers expect a strong turnout of locals and visitors across the country for the events and, reportedly, ticket sales are selling fast with some events already sold out.
Local State MP Liesl Tesch attended the event together with artists and guests from across the community.
“It’s so exciting … all those years of being squashed and hidden and, finally, we’re back,” Tesch said.
“It’s arts, it’s culture and for me, it’s inclusion for everybody and it just makes me feel so happy because I feel like I belong to this community and so do so many others because of what the Naughty Noodle are providing.”
