Central Coast families will be able to enjoy upgraded facilities at six of the region’s playspaces by the end of June, thanks to $825,000 in funding from the Federal Government.

First announced in October last year, some of the upgrades are already underway, with the rest to follow.

Central Coast Council has undertaken the work, which was funded under the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, with some additional funding provided by local community groups.

Member for Robertson, Lucy Wicks, said the importance of community and family infrastructure cannot be underestimated.

“Playspaces are the heart of any neighbourhood and important community hubs where people of all ages and interests can connect, socialise, learn and lead active lifestyles,” she said.

“Some of this work involves replacing old equipment to make it safer for children, providing additional shade structures and providing new materials to promote accessibility and inclusion.

“Much of the construction is underway which means families across the Coast will start to be able to use these new and improved playspaces from the end of June this year.”

The playspaces slated for upgrades are at: Ross Park, Avoca Beach; Woolmers Crescent, Mardi; Hylton Moore Oval, East Gosford; Palm Gully Park, North Avoca; Turo Reserve, Pretty Beach; and Jirramba Reserve, Saratoga.

Council Administrator Rik Hart said local playspaces were places where families connect with their neighbourhood, oung children play and learn and residents get out and about in the fresh air.

Construction works have already commenced at Hylton Moore Oval, Woolmers Crescent and Palm Gully Park with the existing ageing play equipment removed so that new and improved play equipment can be installed.

Works will soon follow at Turo Reserve, Jirramba Reserve and Ross Park.
