Firearm discharged during affray at Gwandalan

Double demerits come into force on April 24

A man has been charged after allegedly discharging a firearm in a public place during a brawl in Gwandalan earlier this year.

About 9pm on Friday, February 19, police allege a group of men attended a home on Inga St and assaulted a 48-year-old man, causing head injuries.

Two men, both then aged 26, have since been charged in relation to this incident and remain before the courts.

During subsequent investigations, detectives from Tuggerah Lakes Police District were told that a firearm was discharged during the affray.

As a result, a 48-year-old man attended Wyong Police Station at about 10am on Thursday, July 8, and was arrested.

The man has now been charged with use unauthorised firearm; fire firearm in or near public place; possess ammunition without holding a licence, permit or authority; holder of Category A or B licence and not having approved storage; wearing of police uniform but not police officer/special constable; and two counts of possess prohibited drug.

He was initially refused bail but when he faced Wyong Local Court on Friday, July 9, the man was granted conditional bail to reappear at the same court on July 20.
