Police sergeant charged with manslaughter

A police officer has been charged with manslaughter over a fatal collision with a motorcyclist at Blue Haven on Thursday, April 16.

A critical incident investigation was launched to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of 28-year-old Jack Roberts after his motorcycle and a police vehicle collided on Blue Haven Way in the early hours of the morning.

Following extensive inquiries, the police officer involved, a 49-year-old male sergeant, was charged with manslaughter, dangerous drive occasioning death, and negligent drive occasioning death.

He was granted strict conditional bail and is due to appear at Gosford Local Court on Friday, October 30.

The officer’s duty status will be reviewed, as per standard Professional Standards practices.
