Critical police incident at The Entrance

Siege at West Gosford

[OFFICIAL POLICE STATEMENT] A man has been following a critical police incident at The Entrance.

Police attached to Tuggerah Lakes Proactive Crime Team were engaged in a pursuit with a Mitsubishi Lancer at about 10.20am on Wednesday, October 21, when the Lancer driver rammed the police vehicle on Tuggerah Pde, The Entrance.

The pursuit was terminated before officers saw the Lancer elsewhere on Tuggerah Pde and observed a man and woman run from the vehicle.

Officers noticed the man was in possession of two firearms – a long-arm and a pistol – and engaged in a foot pursuit towards Gosford Ave.

Initial reports suggest shots were fired by the man and a police officer, which left the man with a gunshot wound to his neck.

The 30-year-old man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

Two firearms were secured and have been seized for forensic and ballistic examination.

A short time later, the 43-year-old woman was arrested on Broonarra St and taken to Wyong Police Station.

A critical incident team from Lake Macquarie Police District will now investigate all circumstances surrounding the incident.

That investigation will also be subject to independent review.
