Students implode watermelon in science experiment

Year 10 science students at Brisbane Water Secondary College Woy Woy campus have participated in The Big Watermelon Experiment as part of National Science Week, August 15-23.

“In the experiment, students measured how many rubber bands it would take for a watermelon to implode,” said campus principal Ms Rebecca Cooper.

“After 346 rubber bands, the constricting force overcame the watermelon, sending the top and bottom half flying.”

The Experiment involved schools around Australia, with students encouraged to make predictions “based on scientific principles outlined in learning material”.
