[Forum] Although it is a popular pastime to complain about politicians’ wages, it is essential that our elected officials are paid properly so that anyone can stand for public office not just those with an independent income.
If some of the Councillors do not need the income they are free to donate the money to any number of charities that are really struggling.
Or if they do not need the work, then they can resign and leave the position to one of the 3.92 million people who need work right now.
Although, given the poor rate of pay, I expect it will be difficult to find the right sort of person to take the flak they cop on a daily basis.
