New digital scoreboard for Woy Woy Oval

While sportsgrounds and sport facilities have been closed in line with COVID-19 restrictions, Central Coast Council has completed the installation of a new multi-purpose digital scoreboard at Woy Woy Oval.

Completion of the new scoreboard was made possible with combined funding from the Australian Government, Council, Woy Woy Rugby Union and Woy Woy Rugby League by way of a grant from the State Government.

The multi-purpose digital scoreboard will deliver presentation of game scores with the ability to display player names or statistics and provide local Associations, Clubs and other users new opportunities to secure sponsorship.

It will also be used to display information during future community events.

Central Coast Council Mayor Lisa Matthews said this new scoreboard matches the modern standards of Woy Woy’s redeveloped oval and will make a big difference to sporting clubs, players and spectators alike.

“The new multi-purpose digital scoreboard will introduce a whole new dynamic to the Woy Woy Oval precinct, revitalise the area as a focal point for community events and allow for the clubs to secure many more sponsors with professional advertising displays and videos,” Mayor Matthews said.

“The scoreboard is the cherry on the cake, completing the modernisation of Woy Woy Oval for the attraction of high-profile games – the Central Coast is really becoming a desired sports tourism destination, and this is now another asset we can add to our portfolio.

“We are thankful to the Australian Government for supporting our local sporting community with funding that has allowed us to install this much wanted equipment.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Australian Government’s $80,000 investment in the infrastructure at Woy Woy Oval would bring significant community benefits.

“Woy Woy Oval is part of the fabric of the Central Coast community and thanks to Lucy Wicks’ advocacy, it’s getting the upgrade it needs,” Mr McCormack said.

Federal Member for Robertson Lucy Wicks said, the addition of the digital scoreboard at Woy Woy Oval has delivered a much needed piece of technology to the precinct, bringing both social and economic benefits to our community.

“This addition completes the Woy Woy Oval upgrade, making it a state of the art facility for local and regional events within the Peninsula,” Ms Wicks said.

John Kenney, representative of Woy Woy Rugby Club said the installation of the new scoreboard at Woy Woy Oval is a fantastic achievement for Woy Woy Rugby Club and Woy Woy Rugby League Club.

“We have always persevered with ensuring the oval has a state-of-the-art scoreboard and now it has happened,” Mr Kenney said.

“The two clubs Rugby Union and Rugby League have worked extremely diligently together since 2015 to gain funding, identify a suitable scoreboard commensurate with a showpiece oval that is now one of the finest venues in New South Wales.

“The final result has been achieved with the help of Central Coast Council, Lucy Wicks, Liesl Tesch and Southern Cross Scoreboards, so a big thanks to them plus their helpful staff.

“When we all work together outstanding results are achieved,” Kenney said.
