The Australian Reptile Park celebrated the birthday of one of its oldest residents, Hugo the Galapagos tortoise, on October 1.

The old boy celebrated his 68th birthday in style, with a three tiered cake made up of all his favourite treats, watermelon, apple, sweet potato and flowers. Galapagos tortoises are known for their exceptional longevity and are capable of living for almost 200 years. In Australia, the oldest known Galapagos tortoise died in 2006, at the ripe old age of 175. Hugo has a long way to go if he wants to top that record, but his daily walks, mixed diet and youthful exuberance are sure to keep a spring in his shell for decades to come.
