Kincumber High School is one of 40 schools in Australia to be equipped with a professional-grade seismometer, allowing them to receive real-time earthquake data from anywhere around the world.
The system is so acute that it detected a magnitude 7.0 earthquake off the north island of New Zealand, just after 2 pm on Monday, September 10. “Thank you to the Australian Seismometers in Schools Project (funded by the Federal Government) for enabling our students to hear about these events on the news and then be able to look up our seismograph to see how it moved the Earth,” said Principal, Janine Debenham.
