Students from Narara Public School performed in the Festival of Instrumental Music throughout June.
“Our recorder group performed in the magnificent Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House on June 23,” said Narara Public School Principal, Mr Dave Stitt. “We were a bit worried about the weather but it stayed dry for Mr Day’s mystery tour of Barangaroo and our walk round to Circular Quay. “Then Cameron, our vocal soloist, was whisked away to the exciting back-stage areas of the Opera House to warm up and rehearse with accompanist, Ms Cathy Kerr,” Mr Stitt continued. “After a big rehearsal and dinner, it was time for the performance.
“The concert opened with the 700-strong recorder group playing Norwegian Dance. “There followed some impressive performances from some of the best school bands in the State, and some incredibly talented solo instrumentalists. “A highlight of the concert came after interval, when Cameron sang his solo part in Different Worlds, backed by a beautiful string ensemble and the Combined Schools Recorder Ensemble. “The piece was stunningly beautiful and Cameron’s solo was pitch perfect and heart felt. “We were all so proud,” Mr Stitt said.t “The recorders had one final piece in the concert, the rousing Handel Highlights, and before we knew it, the concert had ended,” Mr Stitt concluded.
