The Chittaway Bay Lions, with help from the Australian Lions Foundation, have once again shown their support for Wyong Hospital with a donation of almost $12,000.
The donation was given to the hospital’s Surgical Admission Centre (SAC) to purchase a trolley suitable for patients to be x-rayed on.
Nurse Unit Manager of the SAC Unit, Ms Kim Picker, said the new trolley was especially
designed to transport and care for bariatric patients.
“A bariatric patient is the term applied to someone whose weight far exceeds recommended guidelines and their body size restricts their mobility, health, or access
to available services,” Ms Picker said.
“This new trolley will be used for bariatric patients receiving care in our unit and the Endoscopy Unit.
“If an x-ray is required, the patient is managed on the trolley without the need to move them off the trolley,” she said.
“This will greatly improve the comfort of the patient and will also be of great benefit to our staff.
“We are very grateful to the Lions Club of Chittaway Bay, and the Australian Lions
Foundation for their hard work in raising the funds for this trolley and for
their ongoing support of Wyong Hospital,” Ms Picker said.
Members of the Lions Club of Chittaway Bay visited Wyong Hospital recently to see the new trolley and chat with staff about how it would benefit patients.
“It was wonderful to speak to staff about the difference the new trolley will make.
“Thank you to everyone who assisted in our fundraising efforts,” Lions Club member, Ms Di Barrett, said.
