Central Coast Council has adopted the Norah Head Village Centre Masterplan, which will guide public domain improvement works in the Village Centre as one of the key actions of the Toukley Planning Strategy.
Council Director, Environment and Planning, Mr Scott Cox, said the Norah Head Village Centre Masterplan has been developed with input from over 50 residents and stakeholders and is now the blueprint for improving this important economic and tourism area.
“This plan is all about Council investing in the Norah Head community over the next 20 years to retain its distinct character, whilst improving public facilities and linkages,” Mr Cox said.
“To deliver this, Council has identified eight key project areas including the Village Centre, Mazlin Reserve, Village Green, Cabbage Tree Bay, Bush and Young Street Reserves, a shared pathway network, interpretive signs and trails, and streetscape improvements.”
The detailed implementation plan includes 51 projects within the eight project areas, which have been assessed as low, moderate or high priority, based on the feedback of stakeholders.
There are seven projects considered as high priority actions, including pedestrian links between the Village Centre and Mazlin Reserve, upgrade of Mazlin Reserve, including new amenities, and landscaping.
Also included in the top seven priority projects is the construction of a 2.5 metre wide shared pathway along Bungary Rd, from the existing cycleway at Dennison St to Victoria St, and street plantings, parking improvements and kerb and guttering works for Bungary Rd and Soldiers Point Dve.
Mayor Jane Smith said the adoption of the Norah Head Village Centre Masterplan implements one of the actions of the Toukley Planning Strategy and forms part of a suite of masterplans for centres in the north of the Central Coast, including Toukley, Wyong, The Entrance, Long Jetty, Bateau Bay, Lake Haven, Budgewoi and Ourimbah.
“It also addresses the key directions of the Central Coast Regional Plan to create places that are inclusive, well designed and offer attractive lifestyles,” Mayor Jane Smith said.
“The Norah Head Village Centre Masterplan is a great example of how Council is activating the vision for the Central Coast by delivering a healthy natural environment, a flourishing economy and well-connected communities.”
Estimated funding for the top seven priority projects contained in the masterplan is $2m.
The report recommends implementation of the plan be considered within Council’s four year delivery plan, supported by State and Federal Government Grant funding.
