Halekulani Community Library has been operating in Budgewoi Community Centre since 1989.
The library is completely volunteer run, with a small group of dedicated ladies and their families, giving up their time and effort to keep the doors open and the shelves stocked.
Library Co-ordinator, Ms Fay Gyde, explained that without the help of these volunteers, their library wouldn’t exist and they would not be able to lend to the senior citizens and others who cannot travel to Lake Haven or Toukley.
“Audrey Pike, one of our longest standing volunteers, passed away recently.
“Audrey was 92 and had been volunteering at our library for almost 25 years, which is a wonderful achievement”, said Ms Gyde.
“We rely heavily on our volunteers and also on community grant programs such as the Wallarah 2 Community Foundation.
“We wouldn’t be able to provide members of the community the resources and services we do without this funding.
“These funds will assist us to keep our library well stocked with new authors as they come to hand, and to offer some of the latest books to our almost 2,000 members.
“We are delighted to be selected by Wallarah 2 as one of this year’s successful grant recipients,” Ms Gyde said.
