A new coach and some returning talent have Terrigal Avoca AFL club eyeing a successful season.
Terrigal Avoca have appointed experienced midfielder, Mr Mark Skuse, as senior coach after Mr Chris Bishop stood down.
Mr Skuse, 31, joined the club from AFL Sydney club East Coast Eagles where, over a seven year period, he played 22 NEAFL games and 64 Premier Division games.
He also played nine games for AFL Queensland club Aspley in 2010.
Mr Skuse said his coaching work with young players in Sydney, as well as a relocation to the Central Coast, had inspired him to take the player coach role.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my time with East Coast Eagles, however now that I am living at Umina, the opportunity to coach on the coast was too good to pass up,” he said.
Mr Skuse said he would continue with the successful game plan implemented by former coach, Mr Chris Bishop.
“We will have the same core playing group as last year so I don’t expect to need to make too many changes apart from putting my stamp on a few things,” he said.
Terrigal Avoca will welcome back premiership players, Jayson Van Dam and Alastair Richardson, as well as three-time Elliott Davey Medallist, James Webster, and Brendan Harper, who are both returning from knee injuries.
Mr Skuse is the second former East Coast Eagles player to be coaching in the Black Diamond AFL, with Killarney Vale’s, Mr Scott Reed, also a former Eagles player.
