Fans of Miss Phryne Fisher are invited to bring their razzamatazz along to the Central Coast Bush Dance Ragtime Theme Night on April 14.
“You don’t need to dress up of course, but it does lend a certain flair and pizzazz to the proceedings and we are all for flair and pizzazz,” said Central
Coast Bush Dance’s, Ms Robyn Northwood.
“Feather boas are a dime a dozen and that’s about all you will need.
“Or perhaps a boater if you are of the male persuasion.
“But really, anything goes.
“The dances are easy and fun.
“We can promise that the JH Dance Band will be in fine form and the supper, well, ask anyone, our suppers are legendary,” Ms Northwood
said.
Ragtime is a musical style that enjoyed its peak popularity between 1895 and 1918.
Its cardinal trait is its syncopated, or ragged, rhythm.
“It is so much fun to dance to,” Ms Northwood said.
“Our Caller for the Night, the dapper Mr John Short, has collected a programme of dances that would even inspire Detective Jack Robinson.
“These are the Dinky One Step, Chicago Swing and the Evening Three Step. to name a few.
“All the dances will be taught, walked through and called on the night.
“Most are a cake walk to master,” she concluded.
The dance kicks off at 7:30 pm at the East Gosford Progress Hall.
Entry fee of $20 includes a light supper.
