Construction work will start this year on the upgrade of the Tumbi Rd and Central Coast Hwy intersection at Wamberal, with Daracon Pty Ltd being awarded the contract.
Federal and State Governments are investing $65.5M to upgrade the notorious bottleneck to improve traffic flow and safety.
The Federal Government will provide $52.4M while the State Government will provide just over $13M towards the project.
The project is expected to create more than 100 full-time-equivalent jobs across planning, design and construction and is expected to take about two years to complete, weather permitting.
“This upgrade will be a win for the thousands of motorists, visitors and industry who use this critical piece of infrastructure each day,” NSW Roads Minister Jenny Aitchison said.
“The Australian and NSW governments are committed to building the important infrastructure we need to serve our communities now and into the future.”
Federal Member for Dobell Emma McBride said she was pleased to see work begin on the upgrade which would improve safety and ease congestion.
“The project is expected to create 125 jobs throughout the construction phase,” she said.
Minister for the Central Coast and Member for Wyong David Harris said it was good news that the contract had been awarded so the upgrade could get underway.
“Preparations for the work have already been made, so I’m looking forward to seeing construction workers on-site in the weeks ahead,” he said.
“I’m sure Central Coast road users will be okay to deal with whatever short-term disruptions may be needed to get this project done.”
Member for The Entrance David Mehan said motorists could look forward to fewer delays and queuing, and improved traffic flow at the intersection once the work was complete.
“The upgrade of a crucial intersection on a key artery will also deliver better safety and reliability for all road users, whether they are driving, walking, cycling or on public transport,” he said.
Tumbi Rd and the Entrance Rd
needs double lanes to remove bottle neck not lights to replace a round about.
totally agree Larry. lights at that intersection , as you come from Erina northwards, will cause a backup down to the lights at “the bottom shops”;at wamberal. total chaos,!! a four lane road is answer for traffic on the main road.then how do you get Tumbi road traffic out,?
dual lanes to Forrestors beach are needed ,not traffic lights!
Improve round about entry and departure / slip lanes will be better than traffic lights to improve safety and traffic flow during peek periods.
Presumably Traffic Lights will be installed and this will, you would expect, help to alleviate Traffic Congestion but just as importantly give a much fairer balance to Traffic Flow. However, just a very short distance past the now Roundabout
and the coming Traffic Lights, traffic going north towards Bateau Bay and The Entrance has to merge from Two ( 2 )
Lanes to One ( 1 ) Lane, and theoretically increase the speed from 60 Kilometres Per Hour to 70 Kilometres Per Hour.
This One ( 1 ) Lane section of road at 70 Kilometres Per Hour goes for a considerable distance so the prospect of it becoming Two ( 2 ) Lanes in the foreseeable future, thereby eliminating the merging point previously referred to,seems
to be pretty dim at the present time, so obviously the current merging point must remain, although I do concede that
stopping at a Red Light going North will considerably reduce the momentum heading into the merger. In the main most
motorists are very cognisant of the innate trickiness of Mergers but there will always be some who are in a hurry and
believe that their right of way is the only way. It is only a thought but maybe The Authorities, subject to cost, might consider Installing one of those Electronic Signs, at least to be operational in Peak Traffic Hours, with a Large Arrow
and the Words, “ SLOW, MERGING TRAFFIC, “ as a adjunct to to the Traffic Lights themselves !
lights will make it 100% worse for traffic coming from foresters beach.
