The former Brisbane Water Legacy formally announced its name change to Central Coast Legacy at a special event on April 4.
More than 90 war widows and family beneficiaries attended the Central Coast Legacy Race Day at The Entertainment Grounds in Gosford.
The event was funded by local and national business groups.
Central Coast Legacy CEO Peter Lawley reflected on the proud history of Brisbane Water Legacy, and the level of support provided by a dedicated group of legatees (volunteers) since 1951.
The organisation operates two aged care facilities and a large retirement village in Gosford, but as the demographic of the region changes a name change was in order.
Legacy’s activities on the Central Coast have been funded through community donations, support from the Chapman Trust and astute business decisions by the legatees over the past 73 years.
Legacy is a national charity and in 2023 celebrated 100 years of service to the families of veterans.
It receives no government funding, and locally just over $1M is spent annually to provide support.
Lawley said the name had changed but Legacy’s commitment remained the same – Supporting our Veterans Families.
