2,000 Solar Panels to go on Council Buildings

Gosford Council has approved the Solar 455 project, which will see the installation of around 2,000 solar panels across seven council buildings including Central Coast Stadium, Laycock St Community Theatre and the Peninsula Leisure Centre.

The project will provide a yearly electricity cost saving of around $135,000 and reduce Council’s carbon footprint by 840 tonnes of CO2-e per year, which is equivalent to the emissions from 250 cars. The project will cost $785,000 and will be funded by the Revolving Energy Fund (REF). This requires the REF to take out an internal loan from the Carbon Tax Reserve to raise the capital. Financial modelling estimates the internal loan will be repaid by the REF in four-fi ve years by the energy savings from the sites identified.
